Genki Diaries 10: In a Job Interview #1

  • by

Noriko is in a job interview!

I wonder how she’ll do.

Continue reading to see what questions she answered.

The exercise that goes along with the audio dialogue is in the 2nd edition Genki 2 Workbook on pg 19 Section A.

The Japanese transcript is in the Genki Answer key book on pg 72, Chapter 13 Section W13-A #1

人事 (HR): Please tell me your name

応募者 (Applicant): Nakayama Noriko

人事: Nakayama, do you speak English?

応募者: Yes, I studied in America for 1 year.

人事: I see. Can you drive a car?

応募者: No. I can ride a bike but I can’t drive a car.

人事: I see. You can’t drive. How many days of the week can you come?

応募者: 3 days.

人事: What days?

応募者: Monday, Wednesday and Saturday are good.

人事: Yes, I understand. Thank you.

Grammar That Confused Me

Grammar 1: I wasn’t sure what her name was, I thought の was separating her last and first named.

Grammar 1 Clarity: Last name tends to go 1st in Japanese.

Meaning her name is the following: 中山 is her last name and のりこ is her first name.

Your Turn

How do you think Noriko did, will she get the job?
